Purpose!!

As I sit here listening to a WELCOA webinar on purpose, it got me thinking about my purpose as an Organizational Wellness Coordinator and how employees view their purpose at work. According to Gallup, two-thirds (2/3) of the workforce is disengaged at work. This number is alarming. If employees don’t feel purpose at work, they are not truly fulfilled.


So, how can organizations help individuals feel engaged at work?


Start with the adage, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” This is the first step in helping build a culture of wellness. Employees need organizations to truly care about them as a person, then they will start to work harder, stay engaged, and are less likely to look for new job opportunities.


Second, once employees know you care, the next step is to build trust. Employees need to be able to trust their supervisor and leadership team with personal matters and professional goals. Trust is integral to long-term success.


After trust is culture. When employees know you care and they trust you, it is time to work on culture. Organizations often want to jump to culture, but moving through the care, trust, to culture is important for true understanding and success. Building a fun culture allows employees to engage at work and have fun! They model improvements and employee involvement increases.


If organizations truly embrace this care, trust, culture process you will see employees truly embrace their roles within an organization and to achieve their purpose within the organization.


I encourage you to work with employees within your organization to show them how much you care and trust them then you will see huge improvements in employee absenteeism, presenteeism, and true growth within a company. Embrace it, you will be glad you did!
